The Oak Lodge Newsletter
Spring 2005
We are looking forward to summer and our 4th season on Kineo!
I'm sure that calling this our spring newsletter is a bit of a
stretch - most of our guests are from New England and the paper
today brought photos of a huge snowstorm in the northeast. A
perfect time to be dreaming of summer!

This past year brought lots of new and returning guests.
We laugh as our guests seem to bring everything from home when
they come on vacation. The winning family in the "bringing
SO much stuff" category was surely the Harper family.
They turned out to be one of our favorite families. They
came from all over the country for a family reunion. Each
family had a night to cook dinner and a "theme". Christmas
in July night actually brought a visit from Santa (yes, in his
Santa suit). The Mardi Gras night had the whole
neighborhood in beads. Here is a picture of the Harper
clan decked out for their South of the Border Fiesta night.
The piņata is not in the photo!! No wonder they had some
big suitcases! |

We were able to celebrate a very special event this past
September.
Greg and Jessica Gutreuter were married at the
lodge!! The weather turned unusually cold, which brought
the outdoor wedding inside, but it was warm and intimate and
very beautiful! The sunset picture at the top of our
newsletter was taken at dusk on their wedding night from inside
our lodge. It was a beautiful way to end the day! |

We started a cooking school at the lodge last summer. Classes
ranged from Hawaiian Fusion to Tapas, Thai food to Italian! We
had a lot of fun and we are looking forward to our second year this
July. The recipe for Pork Tenderloin with a Raisin Reduction
Sauce that won a contest last year, will be published in a trade
magazine this March!
Email me if you 'd like the recipe or if you would like to
receive our cooking class schedule as it's developed. We have
some exciting guest chefs joining us this year!
That's all for this newsletter. The lodge is just about filled
up for the summer. Please call or
Email soon if you wish to book a week. September is
the most beautiful month in Maine. We are offering a 25%
discount to groups booking a week anytime in September and October
to encourage more late season tourism. The weekend after Labor
Day is traditionally Fly-In in the Greenville area, which is one of
the largest gatherings of Float Planes in the country. It's a
fun time in the area. October is beautiful for leaf peeping,
although it's difficult to pinpoint the "peak" week, it's a
beautiful month and quiet on the lake.
Take care and we hope to see you in the Northwoods this summer!!
