Loons Here is a great photo of loons that Heidi Rhodes took the Summer of 2006.  Come see them for yourselves.
Cow Moose, photos by R. Ringenberg

Moose, the largest member of the deer family, are the most sought after animal to spot by our guests.  Rarely do people go home disappointed!  We usually have one or two cow moose and babies on the island in summer.  They are best spotted at dawn and dusk, frequently in our ponds, eating plant off the bottom and staying cool.  That being said, two summers ago, guests teed off over a moose during our annual July 4th golf tournament in the middle of the day!  If they aren't spotted on the island, we send our guests down Route 15 towards Jackman at dusk.  That almost always yields a moose.

Lupines are an introduced flower to Maine and have spread widely.  The most common color is the blue-purple lupine.  The pink is less hardy and rarer to see.  They usually flower in June for a short period of time
